Why Potassium is used in healthy crops
Potassium helps plants grow tall. It’s another important nutrient, alongside nitrogen and phosphorus. Much of this macronutrient is absorbed from the root zone in the production of most agronomic crops.
Potassium’s strength lies in its ability to open and close the stomata, which regulates CO2 uptake. As a result, enzymes are activated which is an important part for production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) – the secret source of energy for most healthy plants.
Potassium’s role in plant & soil health
Potassium helps transfer water, nutrients, and carbohydrates in plants. And because of its ability to activate enzymes, it also affects protein and starch. Potassium-deficient plants will be stunted in growth.
Some other functions of potassium include:
- Increased root growth and improves drought resistance
- Maintains turgor; reduces water loss and wilting
- Aids in photosynthesis and food formation
- Reduces respiration, preventing energy losses
- Enhances translocation of sugars and starch
- Produces grain rich in starch
- Increases protein content of plants
- Builds cellulose and reduces lodging
- Helps retard crop diseases.
There are a few things that can affect the absorption of potassium. They include soil moisture, soil aeration and oxygen levels, soil temperature, and tillage system. Higher moisture, availability to air, and higher soil temperatures.
Ensure your crops are potassium-rich and has access to these advantages. We have Citrus and Grape products, both containing potassium. Use them in your crops to activate plant hormones for strong roots and plant growth. Choose from either 200 or 1,000 litres, depending on your needs.
We create sustainable crop solutions to grow healthy soil for the future. We believe in sustainable farming through nutritious fertilisers. Add seaweed fertiliser into the mix if you want to improve the quality of everything you’re growing.
Working together to let life, as we know it, live on.
